August - Festivals in India

Festivals in India for the month of August: This was the topic I came upon while I was thinking to write a blog for this month initially. Hope it came out very well, so you are most welcome to have a peek at this.

Also, I didn't realize till I visit this website on festivals of India in the month of august, wow, there is a whole lot of festivals.

One aspect of Indian festivals is not only the diversity in its rituals and way of celebrations, there is also a religious and regional significance of the month that festival or occasion falls in. For example the month of August is associated with monsoons and greenery, thus, there are some specific festivals and fairs like teej, Minjar fair, Kanwaris pilgrimage to Ganga etc that are based on the celebration of monsoons and so are their rituals associated. Not only weather but different mythological significance are also associated with each month, corresponding to which there are different festivals. As according to Hindu Calendar, the month of august comes under Shravan and Bhadrapada months, Shravan being the first month of auspicious “Chaturmaas” period is the holiest period for hindus and sees auspicious days like Shravan Somvar, festivals of swings etc, while, Bhadrapad sees festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Janmashtmi.
