The Amazing Cucumber

Did you know this, about the cucumber? We now know what to do with those last cucumbers of the season. The Amazing Cucumber This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems. 1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc. 2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours. 3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance. 4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few s

Though it was quite a minor operation, she was hooked on to life support system, as a part of the process. The doctors had to input some data prior to the operation to suit different conditions. Thereafter, the operation proceeded. Half way through the process, the life support system suddenly went dead. The culprit : - Some one was using his/her hand-phone outside the operation theatre. தீபாவளி | Diwali

Image
Diwali or Dīpāvali[1] (Sanskrit: दीपावलि: a row of lamps[2]) is a significant festival in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism, and an official holiday in India and Nepal.[3] Adherents of these religions celebrate Diwali as the Festival of Lights. They light diyas—cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil—to signify victory of good over the evil within an individual. In Hinduism, across many parts of India and Nepal, it is the homecoming of Rama after a 14-year exile in the forest and his victory over Ravana.[4] In the legend, the people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (dĭpa), thus its name: dīpāwali. In South India, it marks the victory of Krishna over Narakasura. In Jainism, Diwali marks the attainment of moksa by Mahavira in 527 BC.[5] Diwali has been significant in Sikhism since the illumination of the town of Amritsar commemorating the return of Guru Har Gobind Ji (1595-1644), the sixth Guru of Sikhi

நினைத்தாலே இனிக்கும் - ஆனால் நினைக்க தான் பயமா இருக்கு ;0) நான் சமிபத்தில வெளியான படத்தை பற்றி சொல்லல..(2 nd line), Just in general life But something missing somewhere, its just my thoughts about this movie (no offense), that's it.

Navratri

Image
Navratri, the festival of nine nights is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms. According to the Hindu calendar, Navratri begins from the first day of the bright fortnight of Ashwin which usually coincides with the end of the rainy season. The nine days have great religious significance as Goddess (Navratri Dates 2009 fall on 19 September onwards [19th September to 27th September]). Durga, the divine mother, had destroyed the evil force (in the form of the demon Mahisashura) during this period. The festival is celebrated with true devotion and purity all over the country. People from various sections of the society irrespective of caste and creed celebrate this festival by visiting temples and offering pujas at the Mother’s feet. In some places special puja samarohas are also held by setting the images of Mother Durga on beautifully decorated pandals. Temples dedicated to Shakti also make arrangement for pujas and bratas to mark these nine days as true symbols of devotion and

August - Festivals in India

Festivals in India for the month of August : This was the topic I came upon while I was thinking to write a blog for this month initially. Hope it came out very well, so you are most welcome to have a peek at this. Also, I didn't realize till I visit this website on festivals of India in the month of august, wow, there is a whole lot of festivals. One aspect of Indian festivals is not only the diversity in its rituals and way of celebrations, there is also a religious and regional significance of the month that festival or occasion falls in. For example the month of August is associated with monsoons and greenery, thus, there are some specific festivals and fairs like teej, Minjar fair, Kanwaris pilgrimage to Ganga etc that are based on the celebration of monsoons and so are their rituals associated. Not only weather but different mythological significance are also associated with each month, corresponding to which there are different festivals. As according to Hindu Calendar, the

June - 22 official summer starts

Image
June is the sixth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar, with a length of 30 days. The month is named after the Roman goddess Juno , wife of Jupiter and equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera . At the start of June, the sun rises in the constellation of Taurus; at the end of June, the sun rises in the constellation of Gemini. However, due to the precession of the equinoxes, June begins with the sun in the astrological sign of Gemini, and ends with the sun in the astrological sign of Cancer. June is the month with the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest daylight hours of the year in the Southern Hemisphere. June in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to December in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. The month of June—in the Northern Hemisphere—is in Spring until the 21st, when the first day of summer begins. The traditional June birthstone is the pearl. The June birth flower is the Rose, or the honeysuckle , as roses

April Fools' Day

Image
April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day is a day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool".[1] Elsewhere, such as in Ireland, France, and the U.S., the jokes last all day. I felt this particular day is the wonderful, lovely, remediable, luckiest (so and so) day without realizing its "April Fools' Day", Oh yeah I was fooled literally and very much reminded me all these years, that's really a Fools' Day :(

It's Called Mindset

Image
Eventhough I've come across soo many forwarded emails, quotes and thinking like this before, this particular one called " IT'S CALLED MINDSET " impressed and ofcourse find some time to think about this. A mindset, in decision theory and general systems theory , refers to a set of assumptions, methods or notations held by one or more people or groups of people which is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviours, choices, or tools. This phenomenon of cognitive bias is also sometimes described as mental inertia, " groupthink ", or a " paradigm ", and it is often difficult to counteract its effects upon analysis and decision making processes. As I was more into it, I found the below "Mindset Quotes" interesting, Read it and enjoy Mindset Quotes Everyone is looking for the sure thing. They are looking to hedge their bet. They think the way to do that is t
